Your private guide will take you on a private boat ride for half an hour from Matemwe beach to Mnemba Island, a jewel located in the sea. The island's vast coral reef, measuring several kilometers in diameter and listed as a marine reserve, is the most popular snorkelling spot in Zanzibar. The shallow waters, ranging from 2 to 4 meters deep, are home to a diverse array of marine life, including Moorish idols, blue tang, snappers, and clownfish. However, parts of the reef have been damaged due to changing climate, water temperature rise, excessive algae growth, storms, and human interference.
Your guide will bring you to the most beautiful spots on the reef and remind you to protect the coral by covering up with clothing instead of using sunscreen cream. You will be amazed by the diversity and beauty of the marine life and may even have the chance to see dolphins and green turtles at close range.
Please note that while the reef is accessible, the island is private and reserved for guests of the luxurious and expensive hotel (1000 USD per person). You must follow your guide's instructions and not set foot on the island's shore or you may face a fine. After your snorkelling experience, you'll be taken to a nearby sandbank for a delicious seafood lunch.
