Zanzibar Chumbe Island trip

Zanzibar Chumbe Island trip

Chumbe Island Coral Park (CHICOP) is a private nature reserve located just off the coast of Zanzibar. Developed in 1991, the park occupies the uninhabited Chumbe Island, known for its pristine coral reefs. Visitors can take a short boat ride to the island and stay in one of the zero-impact bungalows, designed using traditional African building methods and local materials. Each bungalow is self-sufficient.

The park offers a variety of activities including a forest trail where you can encounter over 80 bird species, reptiles, insects, and the endangered Ader's antelope. The lighthouse, built in 1904, offers a breathtaking view and is an important navigational aid in the region. At night, join rangers on a walk to spot the elusive coconut crab.

Snorkeling in the coral reef waters of the park is the main draw since you may observe more than 500 different fish species, a variety of corals, starfish, and other marine life there. A guided intertidal walk can also be taken to explore the rock pools, overhangs, and intertidal marine environment if the tide is just right. You can even take a traditional wooden dugout boat out for a sunset sail if the weather is suitable.

This package includes transportation from any hotel in Zanzibar, boat transfers, accommodation in eco-bungalows, full-board (excluding alcoholic beverages), and guided activities on the island. The bungalows have a limited capacity of 18 guests, ensuring privacy. The park is suitable for all ages and fitness levels and is a romantic destination.
