With its lush hills, dense forests, vibrant plantations, and pristine white sand beaches, Pemba is the epitome of a real-life paradise.

With three major towns - Chake Chake (home to the airport), Mkoani (with the ferry port),

and Wete (near Ngezi Forest and gorgeous northern beaches) - Pemba is yet to be fully explored by tourists.

Although there are hotels available, including high-end options with excellent service and budget-friendly in-town stays, tourism is not the main source of income for Pemba. The island primarily relies on the cultivation of cloves, which you may even be able to smell in the air.

Walking around towns like Wete is a treat, as it offers a break from the more bustling beach towns on Zanzibar. Shopping is a relaxed experience, with minimal bargaining, though do keep in mind that shops in the towns close early in the evening as it is family time for the locals.
